With the announcement of Warner Bros. taking over the Las Vegas Media Campus development and absorbing Nevada Studios with Sony Pictures committed to continuing with the other half of the once shared development in Summerlin, the buildup for new film tax incentives in Nevada gained some new traction. With Babs Do Studios remaining independent and supportive of new tax incentives, the outlook for new film industry in Nevada seemed very bright. However, news came out today that Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures are now separating into their own competing developments and with their own film tax incentive bills as well!

Development Comparisons

Both studios have made statements pointing out each other’s weaknesses in their studios and development strategies, thus cementing their newfound conflict. Quite surprisingly, the newest draft of the Babs Do Studios business plan points out these same weaknesses of both studio developments as it is fact that the universally adaptable and scalable design of Babs Do Studios can offer at its current top budget scale of $300 Million Dollars:

  • 32+ Sound Stages
  • Large Multi-Sound Stage Studio Campuses in Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City, and other potential areas across Nevada
  • Multiple Large LED Wall Virtual Production Sound Stages
  • Various Production Offices, Warehouse Converted Sound Stages, Media Datacenter Installations
  • In-house Production and Animation Departments for Consistent Work and Jobs
  • Owned Land For Complete Construction Freedom – Several Potential Lots Picked Out and Waiting
  • Definite Plans for Future Expansion and Development – Backlot Sets, Other Media Production, Distribution Strategy
  • Production Ready Within Weeks – Sound Stages Only Six Months To Build

By comparison to Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures and their newly announced separate proposal details, their developments are tiny by comparison:

  • Only 10 Sound Stages Average for Each Development
  • Las Vegas-Only Development
  • WB – Leased Land Dependence / Sony – Limited Land Selection
  • WB – Intermixed with UNLV Academic Facilities / Sony – Surrounded by Hotels
  • Stated Estimates for Building Time – 2027 to break ground at the earliest – 2029 by third-party estimates

Our Statement

Babs Do Studios has strived for independence and will maintain that independence through this new state of affairs, however, investors have stated that they are holding their possible investments until the outcome of the 2025 Film Tax Incentives Bill. With this new conflict in Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures branching off into two separate bills that only benefit one studio or another, an immediate case of development monopoly, Babs Do Studios will now have to reevaluate its strategy for Las Vegas and the state of Nevada. We are hopeful that a solution exists to provide incentives that benefit all local Nevada filmmakers, students, and future productions from any group or studio.
